Sunday Night Artist Meeting
We got together at the Ybor Arts Colony tonight and went with the interior designer down to Crowbar for ideas of the art presentation for the night time event. There was some initial tension between one of the artists and the architect because they each come from sort of different worlds. They each have extensive experience in their respective fields - putting on art shows and interior design. A free thinking open spirit of co-operation developed quite quickly though; everyone has different strengths and talents to bring to the table. It is exactly that co-operation between different "worlds" that will make this for an "out of the box" type of atmosphere the night of the show. The Crowbar will be transformed into a gallery space and also have an interesting architectural point of view as well.
Exciting.
Different.

ISSUES FREE MEDIA SEEKS TO RAISE AWARENESS ON:
Web 2.0 :
Web 2.0 refers to the usage of the internet as a platform for a large number of people to join together to execute a common project. In contrast to Web 1.0 where users visit a site to retrieve information, Web 2.0 applications are enhanced through user participation.Wikipedia – an online encyclopedia of user-created content that anyone can edit – is probably the best known Web 2.0 project in the world. Wikipedia is the 8th most popular website on the globe.
Net Neutrality :
Net neutrality refers to equal access to all sites, content and applications on the internet for all users. This equal access to free speech and economic opportunity is currently being threatened by major Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) such as AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner. In essence the ISP’s are aiming to put preferred (paying) content in a high speed bandwidth while other (non-paying) content will load significantly slower effectively eliminating those sites, a practice known as “throttling” or a “tiered internet”.
The “Internet Freedom Preservation Act 2008” is currently introduced in Congress and needs your support.
Rock the Vote:
Founded almost 20 years ago, Rock the Vote has been a revolutionary force in organizing, recruiting and engaging young voters in the political process. Since it’s inception Rock the Vote has run effective voter registration campaigns by combining musical and artistic events to motivate young voters to become involved in the democratic process.Free Media is proud to be an official Rock the Vote event.
Free Speech :
Freedom of Speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and by many state constitutions and state and federal laws.During and after the Constitution ratification process, Anti-Federalists and state legislatures expressed concern that the new Constitution placed too much emphasis on the power of the federal government. The drafting and eventual adoption of the Bill of Rights including the First amendment was, in large part, a result of these concerns, as the Bill of Rights limited the power of the federal government. The First Amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Amendment states:Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
WMNF 88.5 FM :
WMNF 88.5 FM is Florida’s first non-commercial member-sponsored FM that first went on the air in September 1979.Mission Statement: WMNF 88.5 FM is a non-commercial community radio station that celebrates local cultural diversity and is committed to equality, peace and social and economic justice. WMNF provides broadcast and other forums to serve the community by the exposure and sharing of these values.
A portion of Free Media proceeds goes to support WMNF 88.5 FM
TBCN Speak up Tampa Bay:
Speak Up Tampa Bay is a 501c-3 non-profit organization devoted to empowering citizens through media access. Speak Up manages Tampa Bay Community Network, a public access cable television station that provides local residents with video production training, facilities and equipment so that they can get their messages out on cable television. The facility, which is located on the grounds of the University of Tampa, is also used to train UT communications students and to provide viewers with coverage of local community events, sports, arts, political happenings and the services available to them through non-profit agencies and governmental agencies.
